Emerald Electric

Humble Beginnings to a Local Favorite

Our Story

Emerald Electric's story is one of family, dedication, and growth.  It began in 1987 when Nick, an electrical engineer who emigrated from Yugoslavia, started his career as an electrical apprentice in the suburbs of Illinois.  With little English and no previous experience, his hard work and drive led him to become a union journeyman and a master electrician, eventually founding Nick's Electric in Westland, MI in 2004.  From the age of 10, his youngest son, Tim, worked alongside him, learning the trade and gaining invaluable experience while helping his father through the ups and downs of business ownership. Even after earning a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Michigan, Tim's entrepreneurial spirit and strong foundation in the trade led him back to the family business, eventually taking over in 2020. Under Tim's leadership, the business quickly grew from Nick and a helper, to a team of 6 employees and 3 service vans. With a long term growth strategy in mind, Tim rebranded the business into Emerald Electric in early 2025. Leveraging his engineering background, a rock-solid foundation of the trade, and a high standard of work quality, Tim has established Emerald Electric as one of the top electrical companies in the Metro Detroit area. Although Nick is now “retired” (first generation immigrants never stop working), it is not unlikely to see the father-son duo talking shop on a jobsite, like they did 20 years ago, only with new roles and a few more notches in their belts.
